Greetings all lovers of Organic and Biodynamic wines,
I received the below and felt compelled to pass it on asap.
Important Notice:
Next week the U.S. house and senate are voting on a bill that will OUTLAW ORGANIC FARMING!!
The bill is called:The Food Safety and Modernization Act of 2009 (Bill HR 875).
In February a House Resolution #875 was introduced by Rosa DeLauro, a democrat, who is the wife of Stanley Greenburg an executive at Monsanto, the world's leading producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seeds.
The passing of this bill would allow the government to search and seize properties with small organic production and insist on the use of toxic chemicals on that can cause serious medical problems including cancer.
Please call 202-224-3121, or email your Congressman and Senator and ask them to vote NO on "Food Safety and Modernization Act (Bill HR 875) Section 3: 103, 206 and 207-
The website links here will take you to a site where you can email a copy of the letter suggested below:

An example email:
To Senator Barbara Boxer:
Please oppose the new law that is going to be voted in next week: HR 875 and S 425! Have you read the legislation? It is a law that will OUTLAW ORGANIC FARMING!! requiring organic farms to use specific fertilizers and POISONOUS insect sprays dictated by the newly formed agency. This will include back yard gardens that grow food only for family use. If this passes there will be no more heirloom clean seeds, but only Monsanto genetically altered seeds that are now showing up to cause UNEXPECTED DISEASES in humans! This bill would allow the government to SEARCH AND SEIZE PROPERTIES that have small organic production.
What is your position on this?
Thank you,
Your Name

Wow if being the wife of a leading herbicide producer is not a conflict of interest in an act forcing there use...
I had to make sure this was not your April 1st post...
WTF?
Yes, its all in the fine print. If you have the stamina, check out Section 206, subsection C of the bill.
They are suggesting setting new regulations that mandate "minimum fertilizer and nutrient needs".
Monsanto, anyone?
Amy, can you go to http://crooksandliars.com/nonny-mouse/monsanto-and-hr-875-take-two and tell me what *you* think?
It seems that Greenberg, a former Clinton advisor, has never worked for Monsanto, and that there is no language in HR 875 banning organic farming or superseding anything already legislated in the USDA's well established National Organic Program.
Thanks Randy. This issue has stirred up a hornet's nest for sure. And everybody seems to have different angles on the truth.
Regardless, many people are concerned about this bill so I am interested in exploring why.
Does seem likely that this bill is unlikely to pass.
I read the bill and did see some questionable language, specifically in section 206.
As far as Delauro's husband and his connections to Monsanto, thanks for the link.
I received this info today as well, "For the record, Organic Consumers Association does have an alert out on HR875. As OCA points out in our Action Alert, we cannot support a "food Safety" bill unless it provides protection or exemptions for organic and farm-to-consumer producers and cracks down on the real corporate criminals who are tampering with and polluting our nation's food supply--- such as Monsanto. Having said that, OCA supports aspects of HR875 that call for mandatory recalls of tainted food, increased scrutiny of large slaughterhouses and food manufacturers, and hefty fines against companies that send poisonous food to market.

As you mention in your comments below, there's more to it...
I'm really glad you put this up so I could act on it. Thanks! I hope you don't mind... my love of organic goods encouraged me to take it a bit further.
I went ahead and put it up on Change.org. I used your words as it was so beautifully written. I figured I'd just mess it up. If you'd like to give out this link feel free to:

Thanks again for bringing my attention to this.
Hi Kevin,
Yes, there is more to it.
I have received dozens and dozens of links and opinions regarding HR 875.
It would be tedious to list all of those opinions here.
From all that I have read two things are clear:
1.There are reasons to be concerned about this bill.
2.Looks like this bill will not pass as it stands.
But here is another link if you are interested.
