Who drinks wine?

I have been following the press about wine drinkers being primarily Obama voters with interest.
First we heard that the primary wine producing states supported Obama overwhelmingly.
Then Dr. Vino further emphasized the point by showing that the states with the highest levels of wine consumption were also Obama supporters.
This was a great distinction.
What I am wondering is whether the wine marketers and producers are paying attention?
Most companies are constantly trying to better understand their core consumers and how to reach them.
Lets look at who voted for Obama.
We know more women voted for him than men. And also that this was the largest turnout of young adult voters in recent history. And we know that these people all wanted change from the status quo.
We also know that Obama engaged this audience with respect and intelligence and social media tools.
Knock, knock. Is the wine industry listening?

Yes, evidently we're not part of the "real" America; although I have to say, that moose chili we saw Palin cooking up last week sounded pretty good.

So perhaps what we really need to do is reach across the (church) aisles to our less vinously inclined brethren, and start to appeal to them by packaging some more *all* American products, like

1. "Joe Six Pack Chard" (yes, barrel fermented Chardonnay in the 12 oz. can... guaranteed no TCA!)

2. Plumba (i.e. a workingman's priced grappa, guaranteed to clear out your pipes)

3. "Whites" (a la Laurel Glen's "Reds" -- a tastefully balanced, attractively packaged, triangle symboled, soft, fruity blend of fragrant varieties, guaranteed to bring out a kinder, gentler, and yes, gay-friendly side of our more obstinate citizens)

4. "Gunflint" Sauvignon Blanc (preferably sourced from Quincy or Cheverny -- value priced, light, easy, yet flinty scented white)

Oh heck, I think you get the picture... power to the (other) people!
